With so many different plastic surgery procedures and cosmetic treatments available to men and women, it can often be difficult to know just which option is right for you.
This is especially true with facial procedures.
An example of this is facelift surgery.
Despite its name, a facelift only helps correct the lower two-thirds of the face (from the cheeks to the neck), which means you will need different (or additional) surgical procedures to help address any issues you may have in the upper third of your face (from your cheeks to your eyes to your forehead).
Two of the most successful cosmetic procedures for the upper face are eyelid surgery and brow lift surgery. And with nearly 415,000 combined eyelid and brow lift procedures in 2020, it is easy to see just how trusted these surgeries are.
However, how do you know which of these is right for you? Well, the following information will help make that answer clearer.
What Is Eyelid Surgery?
As the name suggests, eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) is a cosmetic surgical procedure that helps correct issues with the eyelid(s).
Some of the main reasons that men and women choose to undergo eyelid surgery is because of sagging skin on the eyelids (which causes them to droop) and the presence of bags under the eyes. These issues can cause you to look tired, old, and worn down. And what’s more, excessive sagging eyelid skin can even impair vision.
Eyelid surgery can correct either the upper eyelid, the lower eyelid, or both.
For upper blepharoplasty, an incision will be made in the natural creases of your eyelid. This incision will be minimal in size. Dr. Calabria will remove as little fat as necessary from the upper eyelid and only remove as much skin as needed to keep the natural anatomy of your eyelid intact.
For lower blepharoplasty, a small incision will be made just under the lower eyelashes. Dr. Calabria will elevate the muscle and redistribute tissue as needed to give you a balanced and smooth lower eyelid appearance.
If you suffer from issues with the upper and lower eyelids, then these procedures can be combined to give you a full eyelid transformation.
After your eyelid surgery, you can hope to look younger than you have in years. The bags under your skin should not be as apparent, and you can look forward to a more balanced facial appearance.
What Is Brow Lift Surgery?
While eyelid surgery focuses on the upper eyelid skin and the areas below the eyes, brow lift surgery (also known as a forehead lift) helps to correct issues that extend from the eyebrows up into the forehead.
These issues include: wrinkles, fine lines, and sagging eyebrows that can make you constantly look angry.
Dr. Calabria uses the endoscopic brow lift approach. For this procedure, very small incisions will be made in your scalp, behind your hairline. Then, with the help of an endoscopic camera, he will use an instrument to essentially lift and redistribute the tissue in your forehead and eyebrows through the incisions. This newly lifted tissue will be anchored in place with internal sutures.
Once your brow lift is complete, the wrinkles on your forehead should be less visible, and your eyebrows should not look as heavy as they have, which can allow you to look much younger and happier.
Which One Should I Get?
As you can see above, eyelid surgery and brow lift surgery target different areas of the upper face.
If you are struggling with issues in your upper eyelid or in the area below your eyes, then blepharoplasty can help give you the results you desire. If your cosmetic frustrations are centered around your forehead and eyebrows, then a brow lift is the best procedure for you.
That being said, if you are looking for a total rejuvenation to your upper face, then combining these two surgical procedures is the best option.
Not only can you achieve even more dramatic results than you would with only one procedure, but you will be able to minimize your overall cost and recovery time, since you will be having and recovering from both of these procedures at the same time.
At your consultation, Dr. Calabria will evaluate your upper face to help you decide which procedure is best for you!
