While there are numerous nonsurgical options available to men and women who are looking to rejuvenate the appearance of their faces, the reality is that the results achieved from a facelift cannot be matched.
There is no nonsurgical option that is a true alternative to facial surgery; however, there are several nonsurgical techniques that can enhance the results of a facelift when combined.
Facelift surgery addresses signs of aging, such as the presence of wrinkles and fine lines and loose and sagging skin on the face. This helps patients achieve a more contoured and aesthetically balanced facial appearance.
However, a facelift does not address all concerns with the face. For instance, a facelift does not target the upper-third of the face (or around the eyes), nor does it restore facial fat that has been lost over time or address the tone and texture of the skin.
These other concerns are commonly faced by patients. And, sometimes, facelift surgery is not enough to achieve the complete facial rejuvenation that patients seek.
For these patients, a combination of surgical and nonsurgical treatments should be considered.
What Can’t a Facelift Do?
Restore Facial Volume
One of the most common frustrations that men and women experience as they get older is volume loss in their faces, including on their cheeks and beneath their eyes. While a facelift cannot add volume to the face, dermal fillers can. By adding dermal fillers to your facelift procedure, you can achieve a fuller, healthier facial appearance.
Improve Tone and Texture of the Skin
Your facelift can help you achieve a more contoured facial appearance, including minimizing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles; however, a facelift does not address issues with the actual texture and tone of your facial skin. To address these issues, laser skin resurfacing treatments can be added to your facelift to help give you the smooth facial skin you want.
What Other Surgical Procedures Can I Combine With My Facelift?
Many men and women find themselve happy with their facial aesthetic after their facelift procedure, other patients desire a more complete transformation to their faces. To achieve this, additional procedures (both surgical and nonsurgical) can be combined to a facelift.
Despite the name “face” lift, a facelift procedure only helps to address issues in the lower two-thirds of the face (from the cheeks to the neck). So, if you are looking for correction to the areas around your eyes or forehead, you will need to combine your facelift with other surgical procedures, including
- Blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery), which is a surgical procedure that addresses sagging skin in the upper and/or lower eyelids (sometimes so severe that it obstructs vision) as well as the presence of bags under the eyes.
- Brow lift (forehead lift), which helps to correct cosmetic issues in the upper part of the face, including sagging eyebrows and lines on the forehead and between the eyebrows.
